Prof. Engin Oral is a reproductive endocrinologist and gynaecologic surgeon whose career has centred on endometriosis, infertility, IVF and reproductive surgery. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine third in his class, completed his obstetrics and gynaecology training at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, and in 1995–1996 undertook postdoctoral training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Yale University under Prof. Aydın Arıcı and Prof. David Olive.
He became Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty in 2003 and has remained closely involved in both clinical reproductive medicine and endometriosis care. His current professional profile includes work with Acıbadem Healthcare Group and, since 2025, an affiliated professorship at Umeå University in Sweden. His research and publications have consistently focused on the intersection between endometriosis, assisted reproduction and infertility — particularly the difficult decisions patients face when surgery, ovarian reserve, fertility preservation and IVF all need to be considered together.
Prof. Oral founded the Endometriosis & Adenomyosis Society, Türkiye in 2009 and continues to serve on its board. Internationally, he is a World Endometriosis Society Ambassador, served as President of the European Endometriosis League from 2018 to 2020, and is currently one of the Co-Presidents of the World Congress on Endometriosis 2027 in Istanbul.
