Dr. Ioannis Koutoukos is an obstetrician-gynaecologist and minimally invasive surgeon based in Athens, with a long-standing focus on advanced laparoscopic gynaecological surgery and endometriosis. He is based at Endogynecology – Laparoscopic Center Athens, where his work includes the surgical management of pelvic endometriosis, ovarian disease and other complex benign gynaecological conditions.
He graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and completed specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the United Kingdom. He holds a PhD from the University of Athens and an MSc in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy from Guildford, where he trained under Prof. Jeremy Wright. His further surgical training included advanced laparoscopy in Oslo with Dr. Anton Langebrekke and Dr. Bjorn Busund, as well as training in Buenos Aires with Prof. Leopoldo Carlos Videla Rivero.
Dr. Koutoukos has also been involved in international surgical education as a trainer with the European Academy of Gynaecological Surgery and is a member of the European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy. His published work includes the preoperative imaging of intestinal endometriosis, reflecting his interest in planning surgery for disease that extends beyond the reproductive organs.
In endometriosis care, his approach combines excision surgery with attention to fertility and to symptoms that may persist after an operation. He emphasises multidisciplinary follow-up when pain continues, recognising that complex endometriosis may require input beyond surgery alone.
At the Summit, Dr. Koutoukos will speak on “Pelvic Endometriosis Surgery in a Multidisciplinary Setting: Excision, Fertility and Persistent Pain.”
